I have used this excellent tutorial to add a Difficulty Select element to my game. Everything is working as I want it from this point of view but after you select the difficulty level and it goes to the first screen of the game it redraws it. So what happens is you get the first screen briefly, it redraws and then you have the first screen proper.
I assume this is due to using the menu command to create the menu which automatically redraws the screen after use. Is there any way to stop this happening or am I doing something wrong?

Update: I sorted this with a work around. I am sure there is probably a better way of doing it but I thought I would post it in case anyone else experiences this problem.
What I did was made Screen 0 a blank screen and then started my game levels proper from Screen 1. In the player even I put the following.
IF SCREEN = 0 NEXTLEVEL ENDIF
As I say this is a cheap work around and there is probably a much better way of doing, but it works. I no longer get the brief flash of the first level proper after the Difficulty select screen, it simply flashes Screen 0 which is blank, so you see nothing.
