hi there
I'm going crazy so I hope someone can help. I decided to use Gimpshop to draw some sprites, as it has a lot of options with layers, animations and so on. So the plan was to save the 256 x 192 as a BMP, then convert it to tape using SPECTRA image converter, and load it straight into the scratchpad.
Everything worked fine except - it's all inverse. Black is white and white is black. This might not matter to Michael Jackson but it does to me. I've tried all kinds of tricks - inverting the colours, inverting the brightness values, converting it back and forward again, copying half the screen over so it is the inverse of the other. None of it makes any difference at all.
I know the principle here - the scratchpad only loads the image data not the attributes, so somewhere in the process the paper and ink are being converted the wrong way round. But surely somehow i can get the thing to reverse itself?
Suggestions?

I finally solved it by using zx-paintbrush. Anyway, good that I posted in case someone else has the problem.

scratch what I said. It loaded into the scratchpad and as soon as I went to test the game... boom, reset machine. I'm just about done with this old school stuff. I so want to do it but there's too many unfair kill screens...

The scratchpad can be, and is, of great use to avoid you all the fuss of drawing your sprites pixel after pixel, especially when you are dealing with 16x24 sprites. I use ZX Paintbrush to draw the sprites on a sheet with yellow bright INK on black PAPER so that they turn out exactly the same in the sprite editor. Then I save it as a TAP file to be loaded in AGD. If it could be also available for blocks it would be even better! That said, it is true that the scratchpad might corrupt memory, especially if you have written a large amount of code in the Events section. My advice is to use it at all times anyway. It will save you a lot of work.

hi Alessandro Thanks for that. I tried using zx paintbrush and it seems good. Sadly I do have a lot of code in the events section and after I load the scratchpad the whole thing crashes No idea what to do.
