There is no mention of this in the manual, so I'm assuming it's yet to be implemented. What sort of things will we be able to do with them?

They're implemented. Collisions with custom blocks can be detected in a sprite event in a similar way to deadly blocks, eg
IF CUSTOM JUMP ENDIF
would cause a sprite to jump on contact with a custom block.
The documentation is going to be updated soon, so I'll make sure there's something about custom blocks when that happens.
